I’ve often wondered when receiving an award, is it proper etiquette to clap for myself, along with everyone else? Or should I bow, or do a little curtsy? At any rate… I am clapping and curtsying as I write. I have been given 3 blogging awards over the past week! I'm beside myself! I don't think I've been this proud since I received the Miss Congeniality trophy at baton twirling camp back in '92. To share a bit of history on my writing, I received a D- (not just a D, but a minus) on my first creative writing paper in Dr. Fry’s Freshman Honors English class at TCU. A D-. Fry had no mercy … he absolutely saturated my lovely thoughts in green ink (green, because he thought red was too cliché and incited its own negative connotations). Dr. Fry… “you suck” is communicated loud and clear in any color… not just red. So, Dr. Fry, here’s to you… there are at least 3 people in the blogosphere, who enjoy my writing.
Blogging award? You may be asking yourself- what 'dat? Well, it is most certainly not awarded for excellent grammar and spelling. These awards are bestowed by fellow bloggers. These folks blog themselves, but also find some morsel of goodness or entertainment on my pages. And thus granted the following awards, which I would like to accept, thank the academy, and pay forward to other writers who I blog stalk.
But, first, I must give credit where credit is due. Why did I begin blogging? Over a year ago, I stumbled upon the blog of an old classmate. We had attended Kindergarten -12th grade together, and yet, I never really felt I knew her (and in a graduating class of 58 students-- there is no excuse), until…. I read her blog. What a joy! I had always thought her such a quiet, shy girl, until I was allowed in… beyond the surface. And took the time to go there. To truly know someone, and allow yourself to be known-- that's a treasure. So it goes... Here’s to Shanda from Embracing and Being Embraced… I wish you would continue your blog. I miss your updates, your humor, and your absolute naked earnestness and honesty. You are a gem, my dear. Thank you for the inspiration. You are the recipient of my Miss Congeniality of Twirling Camp Award.
Now on to the acceptance speeches:
1) The Lemonade Stand Award-- Given to me by Julie Buz… from the other side of the globe-- The Czech Republic. I'm honored to be honored by such an incredible story teller. I first caught on to Miss Julie when I read her "Tormented by Men" entry. Wow, could I relate? But, most importantly, Julie gave me a fantastic idea for meeting boys in bars. I've yet to try it... but I'm hopeful! Thank you Julie. You are too sweet. You do make lemonade out of lemons... and have thus inspired me to at least shoot for some wicked lemon drop martinis.
I am going to pass this award forward to a a blog that is the epitome of making lemonade from lemons. Ginny and Matt are an absolute inspiration to anyone, but especially parents who have lost a child. They have cornered the market on the Lemonade Stand, and I'm certain two nicer people have never lived. Ginny also makes some really sassy, beautiful and unique jewelry (her cousin is my best friend/next door neighbor- so I've seen the product first hand). Matt and Ginny do not know me, but I stalk their blog. They have such amazing faith and a positive outlook... they're just a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. Here's to Matt and Ginny at "The Atypical Life", you receive my Lemonade Stand Award.
2) The Superior Scribbler Award-- Thank you Dreamfarm Girl! The fantastic thing about this fellow Texan is that we love so many of the same things... art, painting, writing, reading and cooking. Things we do not have in common: She is a gardener: plants wince in fear when I walk through the nursery. She jogs: I run... if someone is chasing me... with a gun. Barbara takes lovely photos: I have trouble keeping my finger out of the picture. Ahhhhh... so much I can learn from the Dreamfarm girl! Thank your for the award. I'm flattered beyond words.
And the Superior Scribbler Award goes to..... (drum roll please).... Jen Jen at Jen's Voices, because she basically cracks me up on a daily basis. For example, the independent tribute (or satire) to "muffin top". This blog-- not for the faint of heart, or the easily offended. Jen Jen brings a voice to the topics, the rest of us... dream of writing about, but are scared that our 3rd grade teacher may be following. Arghh! Ah, the bravery! Here's to Jen Jen... a superior scribbler.
3)The "I Shoulda Been a Stripper" Award-- This award just makes me giggle. I'm the most modest person you will ever meet, and could never make it as a stripper. Unless removing a veil constituted as "stripping". Maybe in the Middle East? When I was a child, I considered my feet "naked" if I wasn't wearing socks. Yes, modest feet. But, alas, I'm ever so proud of this award. Gifted to me by another funny Jen at JennAventures! This girl is about the cutest thing ever, and I'm convinced we would have been amazing friends... if she didn't live in the Northeast, and if I hadn't come to know her via "blog stalking". She details all of her single girl adventures... with the energy of a gal still in her 20's. I'm pea green with envy about the "20's" part. Her latest entry regarding "mean girls" struck a cord, and I knew then she's the type of friend every girl needs.
I am paying this lovely "Stripper Award" forward to Nancy at F8hasit. Nancy... you have so many followers and so many awards, I'm sure I should choose someone else. But... it's like finding a good fried chicken place... I want to share it with everyone. You are an absolute doll. You are my favorite "blog of note" ever...and introduced me to many of the blogs (Miss JennAventure and Miss Julie Buz) that I currently follow. So, just dust off another spot on your "blog award mantle" and make room for this award. You are great fried chicken.
As the music plays and the lights dim....
More bowing and curtsying... thank you to all of my readers It means so much to be heard. I'm sorry the entries have slowed down. I will do my best to keep pace, or perhaps I can find some followers who are slow readers. If you enjoy the blog, please become a follower, and please comment. It's like the best day ever when I get new comments or a new follower! I want to be that fried chicken place that you tell all your friends about... or at least your "Miss Congeniality of Twirling Camp".
